Born in Shandong, China, Yu Hai was admitted to the People’s Liberation Army Military Band in 1970. At the beginning of 1978, he studied conducting with the famous conductor and educator Professor Lu Shuzhong and Huang Feili, and then was admitted to the Conducting Department of the Central Conservatory of Music under Professor Li Huade.
He served as performer, conductor, band captain, deputy head, and head of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Military Band. In July 2011, he served as the music director and first-level conductor of the People's Liberation Army Orchestra.
As China First-level National conductor,he had conducted the People's Liberation Army Orchestra and the Chinese Symphony Orchestra, the Central Symphony Orchestra, the Central Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Central Opera House Symphony Orchestra, the Central National Orchestra, Shandong Symphony Orchestra, Hunan Provincial Symphony Orchestra, Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra, Australian National Military Band, and U.S. Army Military Band etc.
He is appointed as director of China Musicians Association .
