Professor of Conducting ,the Rostock University of Music and Theater


Florian Erdl has been the 1st Kapellmeister at Theater Pforzheim since the 2017/18 season, most recently as acting GMD. Here he will direct the premieres of Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Abrahma's Fairy Tales in the Grandhotel in 2020/21. He will also be performing as a conductor in Beethoven's Fidelio and 9th Symphony as well as in the symphony concert.
Since 2017 Erdl has been the musical assistant to GMD Sebastian Weigle at the Frankfurt Opera on several occasions. After working on Richard Strauss ’Capriccio, he conducted Mozart's Magic Flute (2018) and Schreker's Der Ferne Klang (2019) there. Now he will take over the direction of the production of Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro. In addition, Erdl has been a substitute professor of conducting at the Rostock University of Music and Theater since March 2020, where he will conduct Mozart's Don Giovanni and several symphony concerts.
In Erdl's own productions, alongside Mozart and works from the 20th century, Verdi in particular recently played a major role (La Traviata, Macbeth, Rigoletto and Un balloinmaschera). The focus in Erdl's symphony concerts is the late Romantic and Expressionist repertoire up to Hans Werner Henze, whereby he is committed to new music whenever possible. In addition to Tchaikovsky's Eugen Onegin and Weill's Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, Puccini's Madama Butterfly, Verdi's Falstaff, Prokofieff's Die Liebe zu den Drei Orangen, Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos, Bartók's Duke Bluebeard's Castle, Previns A streetcar named desire and Bergs are among the numerous opera takeovers Lulu mentions. In addition to studying orchestra conducting and music theory, Erdl also studied philosophy, musicology and directing.
