Rüdiger Bohn studied piano and conducting at the music academies in Cologne and Düsseldorf. As a pianist, he won several international chamber music competitions. He performed regularly as a concert soloist before devoting himself exclusively to conducting. After masterclasses with Leonhard Bernstein, Sergiu Celibidache and John Eliot Gardiner and various theater positions as a repetitor and Kapellmeister at the Théatre de la Monnaie in Brussels, the Theater Basel and the Theater Lübeck, Rüdiger Bohn accepted invitations from important symphony orchestras at home and abroad and worked an extensive symphonic repertoire from classical to classical modern.
From 1997-2007 Rüdiger Bohn was musical director of the Zeitgenössische Oper Berlin. Through this activity, he deepened his interest in contemporary music. He accepted invitations from renowned ensembles, including the Klangforum Wien, the Collegium Novum Zurich, and the Austrian Ensemble for New Music. Since 2009 he has been working closely with the Ensemble Musikfabrik. He has conducted many national and international festivals, the Salzburg Festival, Darmstadt Summer Courses, musica viva and the Munich Biennale are just a few examples. He particularly enjoyed working with composers such as Beat Furrer, Toshio Hosokawa, Isabel Mundry, Wolfgang Rihm, José Sanchez-Verdù and Hans Zender.
Rüdiger Bohn has repeatedly accepted invitations from various ensembles and orchestras to Korea (including Tongyeong International Music Festival, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Korean Sinfonie Orchestra, Seongnam Philharmonic Orchestra, Soliall Philharmonic Orchestra) and Japan (Next Mushroom Promotion Ensemble, Takefu International Festival). He is in Kobe first guest conductor of the Kobe Chamber Orchestra.
He directed several world premieres at the Munich Biennale. In the music of today series he gave concerts with the Philharmonia Orchestra in London. He has played several times with the Duisburg Philharmonic, at the Festval now in Essen, the Ruhr Festival and as part of the symphony concerts.
Rüdiger Bohn is also an enthusiastic educator and has been the musical director of the EWCM - European Workshop for Contemporary Music since 2003, with which he performs every year at the Warsaw Autumn Festival and was honored in 2017 for his services to the city of Warsaw. He regularly leads master classes and since 2005 he has taught as a professor of conducting at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf.
