President and Artistic Director of Vienna Boys Choir
Gerald Wirth started his career as member of the Vienna Boys' Choir and at Bruckner Konservatorium in Linz where he studied voice, oboe and piano. In 1991 he was asked to take on the artistic leadership of the Calgary Boys' Choir. In Calgary he also served as Music Director of the Civic Symphony, of the Vocal Ensemble and as Associate Conductor of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Gerald Wirth is regularly invited as conductor of workshops about musical education and performance aspects related to choral music. In 2001 Gerald Wirth became the Artistic Director of the Vienna Boys' Choir. While he is keenly aware of the choir's rich tradition Wirth also explores new ways to create music. He has written children's operas, oratorios, motets and countless arrangements for choirs. Wirth is convinced that intensive engagement in music has a positive impact on every aspect of one’s life and personality. Wirth wants to motivate his students to utilize all their potential. Over the years he has developed a unique method to teach people of all ages to express themselves through music by training their voices, their sense of rhythm, their listening and their reading skills.
